“Dr. Aftab Qureshi, one of Asia’s leading neurosurgeons and recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz award, was tragically kidnapped and murdered during a police raid in Hyderabad.”
Dr. Aftab Qureshi,a seniour faculty at Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences and a distinguished neurosurgeon, was fattaly shot during a rescue operation led by citizens-police. The operation aimed to rescue Dr Qureshi and other hostages.Tragically, Dr Qureshi’s life was lost in the encounter”.
Here are some picture dedicating Prof Dr.Aftab qureshi:
The Tamgha-e-imtiaz award was received by his son
“He was a student of Prof. Iqbal Qureshi, Who is his elder brother. Prof. Iqbal currently resides in Nawabshah and maintains a very simple lifestyle; he rides a bicycle, which is quite unconventional in the mordren world. Since the nineties, he has been providing home tution to numerous students. He is revered as a legend of Chemistry by his students, which is remarkable in today’s world. A picture that encapsulates Sir Iqbal’s personality is also provided.
Dr Aftab Qureshi, a senior faculty member of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences and eminent neurosurgeon, was gunned down allegedly by his kidnappers on Wednesday morning during an encounter.
The operation, though launched with the hope of reunion, spiraled into a deadly encounter. Dr. Aftab Qureshi, a healer by profession, became a victim of the very violence he had devoted his life to curing. As the rescue team stormed the house in Qasimabad, chaos erupted. Bullets tore through silence — one of them struck Dr. Qureshi in the forehead. He was found bound in chains, a symbol of both captivity and tragedy. His body was returned to Kandiaro, his hometown, without an autopsy, leaving many questions unanswered.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ashok and his mother, Kamla, managed to flee amid the crossfire. Their status remains murky — were they victims or something more? Police grew suspicious as Dr. Ashok had been seen moving freely within the house. Yet, according to his statement, the captor, allegedly intoxicated and violent, had intended to kill them all.
The lone kidnapper, Mohammad Akhtar from Usta Mohammad, was gunned down while attempting to escape. Officers from multiple police stations rushed to the scene after hearing gunshots, with Constable Shabbir Ahmed Khoso credited for ending the standoff. A Kalashnikov and several rounds of ammunition were recovered from the site.
Tensions remain high, and justice is being sought. The incident has prompted a judicial inquiry, ordered by DIG Sanaullah Abbasi — a search not just for facts, but for closure in a story steeped in sorrow.
"Chains held his body, but not his soul — a healer silenced by the madness he never chose.
The house echoed not just with gunfire, but with the fading heartbeat of a man who once gave life.
He wasn’t meant to fall like this — not in shadows, not in chains, not in the grip of fate gone rogue.
Justice came too late, and mercy never came at all.
In the chaos of rescue, a martyr was born — not on a battlefield, but behind a locked door."
In honor of the Shaheed Prof Dr. Aftab Qureshi, LUMHS Jamshoro named the department of neurosurgery in his name.
“Beside tranquil earth where he rests,Dr.Aftab Qureshi's grave stands as a testment to his enduring lagacy of healing and compassion, cherished by the memories of those whose lives
he impacted.”
"Despite the tragic circumstances of his death, Dr. Aftab Qureshi's story serves as a poignant reminder of the selfless dedication and sacrifices made by healthcare professionals in their pursuit to serve humanity"
